Black and Hoppy

There’s no sign of it on BA.com yet, but if you need a pregame brew this week, Beer Works Canal Street is your man. They’ve got this monster they call an India Pale Porter on tap. Pours almost black, with tremendous hop aroma in the nose. It’s the same trick that Hazed pulls, though in the opposite direction – there’s no way that that color and that smell belong to the same beer. But they do. In this case, the dark malts don’t stand a chance. They’re completely overwhelmed by hop bitterness. Some people aren’t into that. I most definitely am. It might be more accurate to call the thing a Black IPA. But whatever it is, it’s the best pint I’ve had out of Beer Works in a long, long time.
