Comment of the Week

November 20th, 2009 · No Comments · Media, Politics

It comes in response to this Globe story about the escalating slap-fight between a governor feeling the heat of a reelection race and a legislature that will allow no crisis to spoil its seven-week winter boozecation: “Is Deval just now finding out what tremendous d-bags the legislature is comprised of?”

The Prof on the Payroll

October 20th, 2009 · No Comments · Media, Politics

Isn’t this nice. In today’s Herald, Jay Fitzgerald updates us on Clyde Barrow’s newest extracurricular activity: The high-profile UMass prof, who’s virtually the sole source of all those rosy projections about the windfall casino gambling would bring to Massachusetts, is back on the casino industry’s payroll.
Back in 1995, Barrow worked for the Aquinnah of Gay [...]

Hugely Unpopular Governor Looking Good for Reelection

September 24th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Nearly lost in all this scuttlebutt about the state’s new senator is a pretty huge gubernatorial race poll that Suffolk released late last night.
In the poll, Deval Patrick’s unfavorable numbers outweigh his favorables, and a full 56 percent of respondents said somebody other than Patrick should be elected next year.
Still, Suffolk has the governor winning [...]

Brad Jones, Comedy Superstar

September 17th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Courtesy of State House News, here’s everyone’s favorite House minority leader, Brad Jones, explaining why the legislature shouldn’t pass a bill letting Deval Patrick fill an empty Senate seat. Even though everyone knows the legislature is going to pass the thing anyway: “The governor’s track record with [...]

Destiny, Aborted

September 12th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

That didn’t take long.
Nine months after he came crashing into state government, Jim Aloisi has been tossed overboard. Or, rather, he’s, uh, decided that his work here is done. And by “work here,” we mean, “alienating the legislature he was brought on board to woo, and driving down his boss’s poll numbers for good measure.”
The [...]

Aloisi’s Destiny

August 12th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

In a rather hilarious interview with State House News last night, Deval Patrick’s Secretary of Obfuscation and Patronage, Jim Aloisi, calls the state GOP’s bid to get him fired “a political move” and “a political distraction.” This, from the guy who’d rather hand out golden parachutes than  play in the sandbox with one of Mitt Romney’s [...]

More Frostbite on Beacon Hill

August 2nd, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Whoa. The internets-bound public sure loves the marriage of confections and politicians’ faces. That’s the only conclusion I can draw from the spike in traffic to this site brought on by the recent collision of Fox 25, Steve Baddour’s face, and a pie.
I would be remiss, though, if I didn’t note that Baddour’s pie-ing [...]

Hottt State House Transportation Fight

July 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Why is it that this latest spat between Deval Patrick, Jimmy Aloisi and Dan Grabauskas looks a whole lot like a bench press contest being waged by one-armed men?

Ribs, Meet Elbow

July 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

If the newswires can be believed, Deval Patrick was in a fine mood today. He called Tim Cahill’s criticism of Beacon Hill’s majority party a “canard,” and said he’d welcome a reelection fight, chirping, “He should bring his A game.” But Patrick’s best line came when he was asked his feelings on Cahill’s sudden defection [...]

The Gov’s Gloves Are Off

June 25th, 2009 · No Comments · Media, Politics

A beautiful thing happened yesterday: the Herald turned in the best, most succinct analysis of the wicked backroom drama currently roiling Beacon Hill.
Patrick, who once expressed a disdain for political mudslinging, already has hired the state’s top opposition researcher, David Stone, to keep any gubernatorial hopefuls against the ropes. “This is going to get [...]
